Can You Mount a TV on Brick?

Yes — brick is actually one of the strongest mounting surfaces available. But it requires masonry anchors, the right drill bits, and someone who knows what they're doing. Here's everything you need to know about mounting a TV on brick.

Short Answer

Yes. Brick is a very strong mounting surface. The key is using the correct masonry anchors rated for your TV weight and drilling into the brick itself — not the mortar joints.

Is Brick Safe for TV Mounting?

Brick is one of the strongest wall materials you can mount to — significantly stronger than drywall over studs. A properly installed masonry anchor in solid brick can hold hundreds of pounds. The key is using the right hardware and drilling technique.

The two things that go wrong with brick TV mounting are: drilling into the mortar joints instead of the brick face (mortar is much weaker and crumbles), and using drywall anchors that aren't rated for masonry. We use masonry-specific anchors on every brick installation.

What Hardware Do You Use for Brick?

We use masonry sleeve anchors or concrete/brick screw anchors rated for the weight of your specific TV. For a 65" TV, we use anchors rated well above the actual load — safety margin matters when something is hanging over your living room.

The mount bracket spans multiple anchor points to distribute the load across the wall. We never rely on a single anchor for the full weight of the TV.

Does It Damage the Brick?

Drilling into brick leaves small holes — typically 3/8" or 1/2" diameter. This is permanent, but the holes are small and the anchors fill them cleanly. If the TV is ever removed, the anchor holes can be filled with masonry patch compound and painted to match.

The alternative — drilling into mortar joints — is more reversible but significantly weaker. We drill into the brick face for every structural mounting point.

How Do You Hide Cables on a Brick Wall?

In-wall cable routing isn't possible on brick. The clean solution is a surface raceway — a paintable plastic channel that runs along the wall from the TV down to your outlet or media console. When painted to match the brick or wall color, it blends in well and looks intentional.

Many clients with brick accent walls choose a raceway in a complementary color that becomes part of the aesthetic rather than something to hide.

How High Should the TV Be Above the Fireplace?

The goal is to position the center of the screen at or near seated eye level — typically 42–48 inches from the floor for most seating arrangements. Above a fireplace, the mantel height often pushes the TV higher than ideal, which is exactly why a tilting full-motion mount is so important.

We measure from your specific couch position before marking anything. If the mantel height forces the TV significantly above eye level, we'll discuss the tradeoffs and recommend the best tilt angle for your room.
