For this Cary home, the goal was simple in concept and demanding in execution: install a 55" Samsung Frame TV above a formal white fireplace so that it looks like a framed painting — not a TV. The homeowner had invested in a beautifully designed living room with clean architectural details, high ceilings, and bright natural light. The installation had to honor that.
The fireplace surround features classic white molding with pilasters and a formal mantel. The Samsung Frame TV, with its beige frame and Art Mode, was the right choice — but only if the installation itself was precise. A TV that's even slightly off-center or not perfectly level would break the illusion entirely.
Centering above architectural details. The mantel and surrounding molding created strict visual references. Any horizontal deviation from true center would be immediately visible against the symmetrical pilasters. We measured from multiple reference points — not just the wall, but the molding, the fireplace opening, and the room's center axis — before marking a single point.
Achieving the artwork look. The Samsung Frame TV is designed to look like a painting, but this only works when the installation is right. The TV needs to sit at the correct height relative to the mantel, with the bottom edge clearing the molding at a consistent distance, and the frame visually balanced within the wall panel above the firebox.
We used the Samsung No-Gap Wall Mount designed specifically for the Frame TV series. This mount positions the TV very close to the wall — dramatically flatter than a standard bracket — which reinforces the painting-on-wall aesthetic.
Placement was determined by measuring from the homeowner's seated viewing position, the mantel height, and the ceiling height — finding the intersection that worked for both viewing comfort and visual balance. The TV was centered precisely on the wall panel, with equal margins on both sides relative to the molding.
The result: a 55" Samsung Frame TV that reads as a large-format painting above a classic fireplace. Art Mode set up and verified before we left.
The finished installation blends completely with the room's design. In Art Mode, the Samsung Frame TV displays the homeowner's chosen artwork — a vibrant koi painting — that fills the wall above the fireplace exactly as a framed canvas would. When watching TV, the display looks intentional rather than incidental. The surrounding room — with its natural light, warm hardwood floors, and classical furniture — is complemented rather than competed with.
