TV Mounted on a Concrete Column — Downtown Raleigh High-Rise

A modern high-rise apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows on every side — and no standard wall for a TV. The solution: mounting a 55" Samsung directly onto the solid concrete structural column at the center of the living space, anchored into the concrete itself.

The Challenge

Jodie's apartment sits high above downtown Raleigh with floor-to-ceiling glass on nearly every wall — spectacular views, but almost nowhere to hang a TV. In open-concept high-rise layouts like this, the only solid vertical surface in the living area is often the building's structural column. In this case: a round, solid concrete column right at the center of the space.

There was a second complication. Jodie had purchased a TV mount ahead of the appointment, but it wasn't the right mount for this installation. Instead of rescheduling or sending her out to buy new hardware, we adapted on the spot.

How It Came Together

Mounting on solid concrete is a completely different job from a standard drywall-and-studs installation. There are no studs to find — the holding power comes entirely from the anchors and how precisely they're set into the concrete. That means masonry drilling, correct anchor selection for the load, and exact placement, because in concrete there's no room for a second attempt a half-inch to the left.

We carry concrete-rated hardware on the truck for exactly this situation. When Jodie's purchased mount turned out to be the wrong fit for the job, we used our own anchor stock to make the installation work — safely and permanently — without cutting the appointment short or asking her to reorder parts and wait another week.

The TV was positioned on the column to face the main seating area, with the height set for comfortable viewing against the backdrop of the skyline windows. Every hole drilled into a structural column has to count — measured, verified, then drilled once.

The Result

A clean, secure 55" Samsung installation on the one surface in the apartment that could take it — solid concrete, anchored properly, done in a single visit. The floor space stayed open, the panoramic views stayed unblocked, and the living area finally got its TV without a bulky media console taking up room.

★★★★★

"Super impressed. Arrived early. Had a pair of clean shoes to enter the house. He hung my TV but it wasn't the right TV mount (I purchased) so he improvised and came up with a perfect solution. He was quick and it took no time. He cleaned up afterwards. The customer service that you want. Highly recommend and will use him for future jobs."
