A blank wall in Chapel Hill became a floating slat-panel entertainment center with dynamic LED backlighting, an 85" TCL on a full-motion mount, and a Sonos soundbar — all wires hidden.
From empty wall to finished media center — the full transformation in one video.
What started as a simple request for acoustic panel installation turned into a complete custom media wall — designed, built, and installed by Art of Mount.
Aman originally called us for a straightforward job: mount acoustic slat panels on his living room wall. But during the on-site consultation, we saw something he hadn't considered yet — the wall had the potential for something much bigger than a panel install.
We proposed a custom project: a floating entertainment center built around a structural frame that pushes the entire panel surface forward from the wall, creating a dramatic floating effect amplified by dynamic LED backlighting around the full perimeter. Aman was in. What started as a panel install became the centerpiece of his home.
This wasn't a mount-and-go install. We started by building a custom structural frame secured to the wall, set forward to create depth behind the panels. That gap is where the LED strip runs — when it lights up, the entire wall appears to float off the surface with a warm ambient glow around all four edges.
The 85" TCL sits on a heavy-duty full-motion mount with an extended articulating arm. The arm is long enough to pull the TV fully away from the wall when you need access to the back — swapping an HDMI cable or plugging in a new console takes seconds, not a disassembly project. The Sonos soundbar rides on custom brackets attached to the same mount arm, so when you pull or swivel the TV, the soundbar moves with it as a single unit. No separate bar mount, no misalignment.
Every cable — power, HDMI, optical, speaker — runs inside the wall. From the front, you see an 85" screen floating in a field of dark slat panels with a halo of light behind it. No wires, no cable channels, no plastic covers. Just the result.
The LED system isn't just accent lighting — it's a set of programmable scenes that change the feel of the room at a tap. The warm amber Welcome scene greets you when you walk in. Cinema dims the backlight to 30% so the screen dominates without total darkness. Ambient keeps a soft glow for evening conversation. Party cycles through dynamic colors — from saturated blue to magenta to pink. And Night drops to a minimal warm light when it's time to wind down.
The system supports the full RGBW color spectrum — dozens of shades from deep purple to ocean blue to soft rose, all adjustable.
A blank wall became the focal point of the entire home. An 85" TCL on a full-motion mount with a Sonos soundbar that moves as one piece, zero visible wiring, and a custom floating slat wall with programmable LED backlighting — designed, built, and installed by Art of Mount in Chapel Hill.
This is the kind of project that happens when a client trusts us to think beyond the original request. Aman came for panels. He left with a media wall his family will enjoy for years.
