65" LG TV on an MM540 Enhanced Pull-Down mount above a stone fireplace — engineered for less than 1/4" of ceiling clearance, with full soundbar integration and wire concealment.
This Cary home has a tall stone fireplace wall with a vaulted, coffered ceiling — beautiful architecture, but it created an unusually tight space above the mantel. The homeowner had a 65" LG TV previously placed on a stand to the side of the fireplace, and wanted it mounted centered above the mantel with a soundbar underneath and all cabling hidden.
The catch: they also wanted the ability to pull the TV down to a lower, more comfortable viewing height when in use, then push it back up flush against the ceiling beam when not — without sacrificing tilt adjustment.
Almost no clearance to the ceiling. The gap between the top of the mantel shelf and the ceiling beam left only a fraction of an inch of working room. A standard pull-down mount's hardware and articulating arms typically need more vertical clearance than this space allowed — there was no margin for a miscalculation.
Two outlets directly on the center axis. Both ceiling and mantel outlets sat right where the mount's vertical travel needed to pass, ruling out simply shifting the bracket up or down to find more room. The mount position had to work around fixed obstacles that couldn't be moved.
Two functional positions, zero room for error. The TV needed to sit nearly flush with the ceiling beam in its "up" position and drop to an ergonomic viewing height when pulled down — both positions had to clear the outlets and the stone surface throughout the full range of motion.
We selected the MM540 Enhanced Pull-Down mount, which combines vertical pull-down travel with tilt adjustment in a relatively low-profile housing — a strong fit for tight vertical spaces. Before drilling, we mapped out the full range of motion against the ceiling beam, the outlet locations, and the stone face to confirm every position in the travel path would clear.
The bracket was positioned and secured into the stone with precision anchoring, working around both outlets without relocating either. We then mounted a soundbar directly beneath the TV and ran all cabling — power, HDMI, and soundbar wiring — concealed behind the stone and mantel for a completely clean look.
In its raised position, the TV sits less than a quarter inch from the ceiling beam — as close as physically possible without contact. Pulled down, it drops to a comfortable viewing height with full tilt adjustment, exactly as the homeowner wanted. Both positions clear the outlets with no interference.
The soundbar sits cleanly below the display, and there is not a single visible cable anywhere on the fireplace wall. The before-and-after shows the full transformation — from a TV on a stand beside the fireplace to a centered, integrated display with the flexibility to move up or down on demand.
